hi i got a mercury outboard from a freind it has no cowlings so i cant id it to repair it can anyone help its a 2 cylinder 2stroke serial no 9396648 . b4822 verviers thats all it says on the plate there is also this number on the steering bracket 3/10/83n any help is well thanked for

Belgium is where your motor was made by the numbers you gave but i don't see any that match up to your serial number by the merc list 78 was the last year they list any being built in Belgium

The sequence of serial numbers 9###### ran up to the early 90's at which point they changed to 0D###### (sometimes the '0' is dropped because it is common to all serial numbers). The number '9' denotes Belgium built but '0D' is a worldwide designation. Belgium continue to build mercs to this very day.

Your serial number is circa 1980/81 but it is common to a variety of horse powers, virtually through the entire range.
