i just traded my 17' tracker with 40 hp for a 1987 charger 185v 150 hp evinrude. it has a stainless steel 4 blade prop on it that i believe the guy told me was called a shooter. i could be wrong on that. any way if any one can help me i would like a little schooling on props. like how to tell the pitch. why different pitches make a difference. advantages over stainless. anything really. i never new anything about props just that they can be expensive. thanks and i look forward to reading any comments.

Re: help understanding props

Prop size, diameter and pitch, is most usually found near the prop nut, kind of under and around the washer. As far as advice on pitch changes, look at one of the stickies at the top of the prop forum page. Also do a search for the threads that talk about pitch. Do an internet search to find some good reference material too. There's just too many things to cover...

Re: help understanding props

If you go to the iboats prop store page and read the helps it will help you understand.
Once you have read them feel free to ask any and all of your specific questions. We're here to help lift the fog. We can also help if a prop change is in order.
