hi folks,

I have a very heavy seacat 18' twin hull with a johnson 175 (78 model), i may need to replace this motor and want some advice on a recommended outboard horse power, it has plenty of grunt at the moment but takes full throttle to plain as it wont plain at half throttle for a minute approx,if anyone is in the rear it has to have full power then back off when it plains. can i go to 115hp or must i keep it 175 +.

also if anyone has info or can direct me to a website re: seatcat by sonata as they may have some recommended specs and i want to find out what the weight is.
thanks

Re: help wanted

I can't imagine an 18' boat with a 175 hanging on the back that has trouble getting up on plane unless you draw about 8' of water. I suspect you have had major problems with that motor for as long as you have had it. Years back I had a 19'er with a 80 hp Merc on the back and it had no trouble getting on plane and gave adequate, but not rageing, performance.

I won't offer any suggestions as I don't know your hull but most 18'ers will do just fine witha 115.
