Has anyone ever had this water intrusion problem before? Removed my 1969 Merc lower stern drive and installed new upper water pump cover with new impeller and gaskets. Note did not replace lower water pump housing in hopes it was ok. Started it up with garden hose running full pressure for about 1 hour. The next day was checking the lower oil level to be sure it was ok. Was shocked to find water mixed with the oil!
The prop was not even put into the water yet or lake. So I know the water did NOT come in by the main out put shaft. SO DO YOU GUYS THINK ITS THE LOWER WATER PUMP BASE that is bad letting the water run into the lower drive with the oil? Would like any ideas or though's how else the water is getting into my lower drive with out even being run in the lake yet? Thanks in advice for any ideas and help.. Oh before I installed new water pump housing it was fine no water in the oil!
This is A 1969 19 1/2 Dorsett Cabin 6 CLY 250 160 HP CI IN-6 Engine rebuilt this winter which I been rebuilding slowly to like very good condition. Sure want to go out Bottom fishing this month at Fort Bragg if I can solve this water problem right away...
