HELP! Water pump troubles on '81 Merc 115 inline 6

I am trying to remove the water pump on my 115 inline 6cyl merc. I cannot remove the impellar to get to the bottom of the pump. What am I missing in the greater picture? I am at a total loss.

The impeller outta lift right off the shaft. If it's very stuck you may have to CUT it off. Rare, but it happens.<br /><br />-W

As Clams says, it should lift straight off but sometimes a bit of corrosion builds up on the driveshaft just above the impeller. I had a 95 model 200hp merc with the same problem a couple of weeks ago. <br />Be careful if you are going to cut it off or use some sand paper to take the obstruction off. Hey Guys, Thanks a lot!!! I am assuming that the impellar has never been replaced until now. I had to file the gunk off it was so hard. I got it off and am ready to put the new pump in. <br /><br />If y'all have any more tips just let me know. this is my first time at this.<br /><br />Thanks again!
