HELP...what are these little boxes

on all my hot wires on my batteries have these little black box looking things on them. what are they and do i have to have them on the wires? they look really coroaded and if i dont have to have them i will take them off and put the wires directly on the batteries. thanks

Theres a pretty good chance those a circuit breakers. There is also a pretty good chance that removing them will result in a fire if a short should develop in the circuits those wires supply. There purpose is to protect the wire between the battery and wherever they go. Without them a short turns the battery into a very effective arc welder. I suggest you re-think the "removal" concept and simply replace them. They are less than $10 bucks each depending on where you buy them. Various amp ratings are available and they must be selected based (in part) on the wire size in each circuit.

thanks silvertip, thats what they were i cleaned and tested them and put them on. i appreciate the help
