help with 125 force problem

Hi this week end went to fla to fish my father inlaw boat the batt was dead to i jump him off then went fishing later that day .i had to jump him off agin this time i left my boat running with the jumper cables on with my motor running and tried to jump him of it woudn't so i left my out boad running and took out my batt and used it to jump him off and put my batt back in . The next morning went to go fishing batt was dead came home and charged motor fired right off . Now the problem with the key off as soon as i hook up the batt the gauges jump the the volt gauge gos to 13.5 volts with the key off why . It did not do this till i turn the key on . Help

Running your engine without a battery is a great way to pop the voltage rectifier/regulator. Don't know if that's the reason your gauges receive power with the key off but you obviously created a problem. My suggestion would be to start the engine and measure the battery voltage at idle. Then fast idle the engine to about 2000 RPM. If the voltage reads 12.6 - 13 volts at idle and 13.5 or higher at 2000 RPM the regulator is probably ok. If the idle and 2000 rpm voltages are both 12.6 or less, you are in the market for a new regulator.

shouldn't jump an outboard with jumper cables,it can blow the cdi modules.<br />javsam

Thanks for the Info I kind of thought that might be the problem i will check this today .

I know jumping off a boat with the batt is a bad idea but at the time we were 5and half mile out in the gulf and tried to get is started the fastes way we could .I don't this i blowed the cdi the motor fires right up .
