I was hoping some of the FICHT guys on here might be able to provide some insight into this dilemma I have encountered with a 150 FICHT Evinrude Outboard of the 97/98 vintage.
For a little background, I acquired the motor second hand on an older Grady and it has been running decent albeit just a tad rough occasionally while at idle and slight above idle speeds. I say it is a 97/98 150, as the serial number on the midsection comes back to a 97 motor, while the EMM reads as a 1998 when connected with the software. The motor has been rebuilt at least once and has all of the updates to my knowledge (pinned heads, updated oil injector/lift pump).
Anyways, I have the slightly rough idle down to the number 3 injector providing too much fuel at idle (plug is a little wet vs. the sooty black that FICHT plugs normally are after idling for a while). I assume that the injector needs to be cleaned/rebuilt and had contacted DFI technologies. They had agreed that the injector was likely the issue and I had intended on sending it out to them.
While on the phone with DFI, I had found out that the 97/98 injectors were non-compensated injectors and could be swapped without reprogramming coefficients into the EMM. So I picked up a spare good injector from a 97/98 FICHT that I was going to swap in during the downtime from DFI.
Well when I went to pull my bad injector, I noticed that it had an entirely different part number then the spare injector I purchased. The spare is 439127 which, to my knowledge, is the only part number for the 97/98 injectors with the opposing fuel inlet/outlet. All of the injectors on my motor have the part number 438967. In addition, the spare injector has under the part number "120 degree fuel PDS". The injectors on my motor read "90 degree fuel PDS". Overall the injectors look almost identical except for the near the pintle, where the taper of the injector base is slightly different.
So now I'm not sure if I can swap the spare injector in. I call DFI today and they say they should be able to service the oddball injectors, although they have never heard of that part number. I did an exhaustive web search for that injector part number and the only thing I came up with was a translated Korean outboard webpage that had the 438967 PN next to the 439127 PN and the phrase "fuel PDS" in between.
I am thinking that perhaps my injectors on the motor are some really early version that was later superceded by the much more common 439127 injectors. Does anyone perhaps have any more info on this? Also if the 439127 injectors did supercede my injectors, is it possible that I could use the spare injector I bought, given that these are non-compensated injectors and there really is no way to adjust them in the EMM?
I have included two pics below for reference.
Also, if the FICHT naysayers could keep their replies to a minimum that would be appreciated. I am pretty sure everyone is already aware of the motors' internet reputation.
