help with boat ID/model/year

We bought a old boat and have to re register it, wondering where I can find thre boat hin tag attached to the boat, we only have a bill os sale as is. also just by chance if anybody can visually ID it/make or model as it has a very visual body characters to it, and does anybody know a site where I can lookup hull(hin) numbers for free

Common practice since the early '70's is to attach a plate or emboss into the transom on the stbd side in the area above the tow eye. The state registration number may have a paper trail

thank you for the reply , will be looking into it , is there a site I can look up the numbers on the boat, I live in vancouver , canada . I have never seen a boat with the raised edges before and have been researching pictures and such. still cannot find a boat like it.

The first 3 digits will ID the builder. Generally the last 2 digits will be the year.
You will find the database to HIN here
