Help with Broken T&T Manual Release Screw

I have a 1991 70 HP Evinrude, with T&T. Tried to unscrew the Manual Release Screw because it was leaking and of course, one half of the screwdriver fitting broke off. Does anyone have any idea how I can get it out or seal it up permanantly, so that it does not leak? Wondered if I put JB Weld or something in the hole where the screw is, if that would seal it? I know it's not the ideal solution, but if there's a simpler way out of this right now, I'll go for it! Thanks and I appreciate any help!

Using a hammer and pin punch, walk the broken screw out in counter clockwise rotation....
schematic
That would work if it was flush but it is recessed in about a 3/4 inch hole on the side of the lower unit. If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks

Hey rick, I believe your talking about the little bugger on the port side of transom bracket. You think yours is hard to get to.I've got a swim platform next to mine .Need a mirror just to see it.Anyway, if I'm not mistaken I believe that inside snap ring retains valve assy.Perhaps after removing you can get a pair of pointed nose vise grips on the remaining tab of screw head and extract the little vermin.Mine looks like it's had a driver on it as well and it's kind of distorted. Can't understand that as I purchased it new and have never touched it.If you're able to do above procedure I would be cautious not to twist , but rather pull straight out on assy. as to not break off remaining screw tab assuming any remains to grab.Hope mine doesn't start leaking as it looks like a bear to remove.Good luck with yours.Oh yeah I was thinking worse case scenario if you can't do either it may be possible to find rubber or plastic cap that would fit over housing protrusion around vavlve assy. in an attempt to slow or stop leak as a temporary fix.

Re: Help with Broken T&T Manual Release Screw

Thanks Ob, It is really in there ( Tight), so I dont think I will be able to turn it at all since it is recessed into that hole. I just wondered after all the fluid drains(Taking forever), if I can just seal it up and forget it until something happens to the T&T, And then deal with it then. Is there alot of pressure coming out of there or will a plug hold it? At least until next spring? Any other ideas all welcome and thanks again!

OB, The snap ring is just keep you from turning it out too far. It is screwed in there! Just so you know what I'm up against. Wonder if I could use an easy out?

Schematic,
I'm not sure if taking the transom mount would allow me access to it or not! Maybe someone would know before I go to all that trouble! HELP, I'm dying here!

Rick ,I think your right about the snap ring after closer look.I you can get drill body squared enough between transom it looks like that's the only chance.I would start with a bit no larger than 1/8 for pilot hole.An easy out looks like your best bet.I tell you on these tight ones like this I place my bet on the round type instead of the square easyouts.Just make sure you centerpunch that bugger first so your bit doesn't drift. With a few choice words and a little luck I think it can be done.Seems they could have made life easier by incorporating allen head screw instead of flathead. Also Iwould block motor up in full tilt position for access and prevention of sudden release of fluid in the advent you need to drill through to gain enough depth for easyout.Keep us posted on outcome.
