Hi, I have a 1989 spectrum 17' with 85hp. I recently change the new hub for the trailer, today the Alex broke. The welding came off as it is rusty and old. Now I need to get a new alxe, problem is I have no idea how to buy, I don't even know what is the weight class support to be. I don't know how heavy is the boat...... If there is anone here that have the same boat, please let me know what is the weight class. thanks

If the axle broke or came loose because it is rusty and old, chances are that the entire trailer frame is rusty and old and in danger of failing, especially if the trailer has a tubular frame where rust can be hidden inside of the frame tubes. My bet is that you need to be looking for a new trailer instead of trying to patch up the old one.

Re: Help with buying new Alex for my trailer.

there is something wrong with the info on the web, my spectrum 1700 come with 85hp force ob. the web said 50 hp max.
how ever it did said the boat to be under 1000 lbs. does it meant that 2000 lbs alxe is good enough for me?

Maybe your boat is just overpowered.......

The axle has to support the boat, engine, all gear, fuel, and the trailer.... I'd say that you should probably have a 3500 lb axle

side note... I see that you tend to get a few typos... Suggest that you look into Mozilla Firefox... It's a free download for a GREAT browser and it has a very good spell check feature...

ok, I am still having trouble....
i measure my axle. it has a round tube of 1 7/8" the spring eye distance is 62" and the face distance is 72". bearing is 1 1/16" both inner and outer and it is a overslung, now where can i find axle with such spec? the most common one I found have round tube size over 2" or square. can those fit?

It's not that much more to get one custom made. I bought mine at ABC Trailer Parts - Trailer Axles - Trailer Axle Kits $16 extra for a custom size. He's pretty helpful in making sure you get the right measurement. Square vs round shouldn't be a problem. To me it doesn't sound like your measurements are right. Can you post a picture. 5" between the hub face and spring doesn't seem like much clearance.
