New here and need expert help. I'm rebuilding a 1986 inline-6 w/ WMK39 carbs and I need advice on the needle/seat adj. Have a new SELOC Marine manual but it does not show the exact WMK39 carbs in the rebuild. Rather, ones of the WM series with the fuel filter in the float cap which is very similar. The WMK39 does not have the filter.

The adjustment specs are completely different in the SELOC manual than what was furnished with the Carb. kit 18-7021 as seen on Pg. 289 of the Sierra on-line parts catalog.

Upon removing the old needle and seats, I discovered it has what appears to be the .078 bore needle/seat kit 18-7057 as seen on page 290 of the Sierra Marine catalog. The specs that came with the rebuild kit states 40- thousandths gap between needle and lever. Whereas, in the SELOC manual, it goes into setting adjustments and methods of a different nature and mentions nothing about .040 gap. Both methods do suggest bending the tangs on the primary lever and if necessary, bending the secondary lever to obtain a needle movement. Prior to disassembly of the needle and seats there was very little movement and gap between needle and lever.

The new kits I ordered have a .065 bore. At first, I thought I had not ordered the correct kit, # 18-7021 complete with all the gaskets, O-rings etc. Called the supplier back (Marine Engine.com) and ordered needle/seat kit 18-7061 per their advice. Turns out, it's the same needle/seat kit as contained in the first complete rebuild kit 18-7021. Needless to say, not too pleased with with the advice I relied upon to provide only the parts I needed per the given engine serial number.

The motor has not been used it in 15 years, it sat with fuel in the tanks and the carbs were not ran dry and left covered in the driveway until recently. Upon providing new tanks and fresh fuel, I got it to run but its a little rough. I've soaked the carbs and they're ready to reassemble but I need to know if I'm installing the correct bore kits and what the exact adjustment specs should be and hoping that someone here has rebuilt these last revision WMK39 carbs. Any info from someone who's experienced with this engine model would also be much appreciated.

Thanks !
