Have a 1986 19' SeaRay Seville Open that I recently bought. Long story short, found block is cracked. The below is the info I have on power train.

Engine has part of a OMC tag near the water manifold on front top of engine, but Mod & Ser. # missing.
Block casting number is 1408853--crossed that over to a 1986-1988 4.3, W 1 piece rear main seal and is a non-roller cam.

OMC Tag on bracket that holds the steering arm reads: "OMC Drive System Mod. 98300 Ser. T0014689

OMC tag on lower units reads :Mod 983842 Ser. T0440000.

Can anyone tell me what stern drive I have? Cobra or what. I intent to replace the engine and need to order a OEM service manual. Also, sure I'll need parts for the drive. I have a Seloc Repair Manual that covers OMC Stern Drives 1964-1986 --however I don't care for it.

Hope to keep photos of my efforts and post in restoration section as I take on this project making this boat the beauty I'm sure she once was.
Tks for any help.

I can tell you this much... My sterndrive model number is 983487 which after having zero clue how that helped me I showed a picture to a boat mechanic, found out I had an OMC Stringer 800 with electric shift... He informed me that he could tell by just seeing the half moon tilt gear on the left side of the drive... Since then I have in fact confirmed its a stringer...

You have a Stringer, but it should be Mechanical shift. Electric shift was done with by around '77. If you've honestly got an electric shift, you've got a real "frankenmotor" going.

HAHA Frankenmotor... I cant say for sure that I have an electric shift, I know the motor, and outdrive are 1986... I was told it was an electric shift, but that was by the guy who also said I needed to rebuild my carb when he didnt even look at the boat.

Whoops!! I goofed ... For some reason I thought you were the OP KrustyCrab! Sorry about that. Though, I think you have an '86 too and so it should hold true. '86 vintage was the last year for the Stringers, should be full mechanical shift. 6 or 8cyl. engine is a Stringer 800, 4cyl. engine is a Stringer 400.

983487 isn't electric shift. It's full mechanical.

Thanks All. Scott no joy for tag by starter. Regardless, going to pull drive and motor this weekend. Won't need a book for that. I don't think book even make good knee pad. Krusty, mine does not have the half moon gear for the tilt. I have a tilt/trim hydraulic pump and reservoir inside mounted on transom and a hydraulic cylinder on each side of motor. I found a site that has OMC OEM manuals but hate to spend $85.00 for another knee pad if I order wrong one. Had thought with the other #s I gave someone might know for sure what it is. Could post photo but not sure that would help.

^^^ do you have rams on the stern drive? If so, you've got a COBRA, not a Stringer. Stringer trim would have a pump, but tilt would have a gear outside the hull on the drive. If you've got rams out there, then it ain't a Stringer.
