help with drive shaft seals

I am replacing the pump and seals in my 1990 50 hp j0hnson VJ50BELESR I do not know if I have to pull the bearing housing assy to replace the upper and lower seals or can I pull the seal out of the housing without pulling it? If so how do I pull the seals? thanks for any and all help. AL
