I tried out my new(used) 1998 Lowe Bass Boat w a 1998 60 hp Evinrude. The gauges were working when I started out. The speedometer and volt gauge were not working a little later. I did get too close to shallow water and stirred up some mud to the extent that the two depth meters showed zero. I got into deeper water and the depth gauges began to work after a while. The rpm and fuel gauges continued to work all the time.

I do not know if the mud had any connection to the gauges. Help provide some possibilities to check out and/or solutions.
I am a newbie on this large a boat and motor. I do need some help.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Help with gauge problem

Usually the speedo is powered by water pressure, is the pickup tube clogged?
Have you checked the charging system, is the engine actually charging the battery?

Re: Help with gauge problem

I will use a voltmeter and check to see the engine is charging today. As you can imagine, the speedometer is not my main concern.
Thanks

Re: Help with gauge problem

Thank you, Daviet, for your reply. I checked the charging with a volt meter and the motor was charging. When I took it out yesterday, the volt gauge was working. The speedometer worked poorly and only after I got the boat up to an estimated 30 mph. I will make a new post on that.
This forum has done so much for me in the past year, I almost feel guilty using it for free. I have bought some products; but, not enough to compensate for the quality of help and advice I have received.

Don't worry, there will be a time when you will help some one else out.
