I'm running a Volvo 275 outdrive and I broke the tilt drive.. I have taken it apart and found no broken teeth on either of the worm gears or on the round Brass gear that the horizontal worm gear come into contact with.. Tilt piston will go up and down under no load but will not go up or down if there is pressure on it.. there is a silver gear that sits on top of the brass gear that is run by the horizontal worm gear, this silver gear runs the vertical worm gear that runs the piston up and down... The problem seems to be that the silver gear sitting on top of the brass gear doesn't spin with the brass one.. How are these supposed to stick together?.. I could find nothing to hold them together or even pieces of anything if that is what I broke.. I have looked at the diagrams and know the part #'s but nothing looks broken.. Any Ideas?.. are these just held together by presure when it is all bolted back together?..

Before I spent $250 replaceing all the worm gears I would like to know if I can fix it or if it is even broken?

Re: Help with gear driven tilt

Thanks for all the help.:p.. I must be the only idiot on the planet to have ever done this before... Anyway... The gears are made to slip on eachother incase of operator error or just plain stupididty in my case but that is how I learn... It did bind up the electric motor but by taking it apart it unbound it and I put it back together and saved myself a bunch of $... The gears seem to be made to slip so if you raise or lower it to far you wont strip out the gears. Good design for those of us that screw up every once in a while..
