Hello All.
Just picked up a 20' CC, and heres the situation. The engine stalls at about 3000 RPM, but below and above that is fine. Through research, ive concluded that the carburator is the culprit. Id like to replace the carb, but Im having a prob figuring out exactly what engine I have. Heres a pic

would anyone happen to know what engine this may be. The carb is under the the black case with writing on it?

Re: Help with identifying engine

As it says on the engine cover, it is an L4 (inline 4 cylinder) 3.0 liter engine.

GM produced the block and head, and everything else is by Yamaha.

Here is the bad part....you should have done a little investigation before buying that boat.
Other than Captain Ken in PCB Florida, there are virtually NO parts available for Yamaha I/O's.
Yamaha pulled out of the market after a very brief time and screwed all their customers, plain and simple.

Hopefully, if it is indeed you carb, there is some way to get parts but I would not count on it.

I wish you the best of luck....

Gotcha. That could be a real problem. Lets say I decide to look to purchase another engine to directly replace this with little to no modification, what kind of engines should I be looking at?

Re: Help with identifying engine

The engine is not really the big problem. It's al the Yamaha proprietary stuff on it and the Yamaha drive system.

If you really think you need specific parts, change the title of your thread (or start a new one ) with Need Yamaha Parts in the title and just about the only person on earth that can help you-Capt Ken- will see it and try to help you out.

Judging by the choke t-stat and fuel line i would guess its a Rochester carb.

My thinking also....
If it is a Rochester then parts are no problem.
Pull the cover off and take a couple pics.
