I am going to look at this boat in the morning.I cant find any info on it online!! If anyone knows how they are and why it would have such a large motor on it for a 16' cc. Are they heavy? Good or bad? Stay away? Was looking to hopefully sell the motor and put somthing alittle smaller on it.

Here is the pix!!

The owner is not much help.

I am gonig to go with that is a red flag. If the owner does not know much about the boat then he does not know much about taking care of one. Also remember paperwork is king. Without the proper paperwork you will never be able to register her.

Thanks I saw that also but i still looking to hear from anyone who has or had one. It's a 1987. Kinda old for me but if its in good shape it will be a cool boat.hopefully the transome and stringers are in good shape. Been covered for 2 years.

Re: help with info on this little CC

so the add didn't say anything at all? what's the price? the chrysler motor isn't worth much at all and the boat isn't worth a whole lot

Fairly low dollar boat even new... it's just a fairly basic utility/fishing boat

In good shape it would be a fine boat to have but price and condition will be the big factors..... At a few hundred I'd say go look at it... at a few thousand I'd say click the little X and move on to the next one.

Yeah im thinking I will be able to get for a couple hundred. Replace the motor with a smaller one.it appears to not draft much. I was hoping Somone who chime in on this. Almost looks like a flats boat.

What is the coast guard max horsepower rating for the boat???

Always max it out if you re-power,......

I would generally agree but such is not always the case. Especially with smaller general fishing boats.

Case in point. I have a 1988 Alumacraft Classic 16 that has a max HP rating of 75hp. When I purchased it there was a blown 70 Evinrude on it, which I thought was a bit much. I repowered it with a 60hp 2 cylinder and even with that when I am alone in the boat it is very fast and into a cross wind it becomes unstable and squirrely. Would hate to see what it would be like with a 75hp on it. Also, the 60hp saves me almost 75lbs on the transom and overall load rating which also reduces the draft a slight bit which really matters when trolling the shallow rock bars.

Checked boat out yesterday. It had some soft spots on the casting decks but was in great shape other then that and motor. Very cool little 16' boat. Appears to look like a flats boat. Only thing I could not find was the plate with max HP of the boat.

Soft spots in the decks means replacement of the deck at the minimum with possible replacement of the stringers, depending on whether they're rotten as well. If you have the skills and can get it for very cheap, go for it. Otherwise I'd move on. Paying somebody to fix a boat with such structural issues can wind up costing you a couple of thousand dollars easily. And that's just talking about the boat; not its engine or electronics.

You'll have a big project with the soft spots most likely. Jump to the restoration section and decide if you really want to rebuild the thing. As everyone here says, they typically rot from the bottom up so you'll be into the stringers most likely. If the motor doesn't run perfectly I'd walk away...

Re: help with info on this little CC

why does everyone assume the boat even has stringers? Looks like a filled core boat like a whaler, where there are no stringers, no rot, no problem. That's why they hold their value.

And what size motor is it? the picture is cut off. But to answer your direct question of WhY? it's because lots of people over power their boats.

On a flat hull like that you seldom if ever go to the max HP. It'a one of the great advantages of a boat like that. And they take little care; no need to cover, winterize or anything (obviously the motors need care but that sounds like not part of the decision.)

I'm not saying buy it but the advice not to buy it seems like uninformed advice to me.

Sure it's uninformed. But based on past experience and probabilities. We've asked for information several times and are responding to the very little we are getting.
Motor has almost no value and looks to be about twice what the boat requires.
Whether it has stringers or not the rotten decks are most likely structural parts of the hull and it still has a transom and the combination of too much motor, rotten decks, clueless seller, and being a low dollar boat all adds up to it being a pretty high chance that it needs more repair than its worth.

Boat total value is under $500 and repairs / upgrades probably $2500. No boat is an investment but this is a money pit that could never recover cost of materials to repair it.

Re: help with info on this little CC

Guys The motor is a old 115 hp. I could not find a plate on the boat for max hp.The seller has no clue about it.The only soft spots i found were on the decks. The floor was solid just the decks were alittle soft. I can not find any info on this boatat all.I was just looking for a little center console for back bays. I dont want to replace stringers or do a restore!! But i think i could replace the front deck.
