I'm rebuilding the carb on a 1990 6hp OMC. I put a carb repair kit in and re-assembled, but when I tightened up the bowl (in the correct sequence) it cracked.
With hindsight, the problem could be that when I disassembled it the first time, a gasket:
No. 27 above, was missing. The carb repair kit included the gasket, so I installed it - was it the height of this gasket which caused the bowl to crack? Having bought a new bowl, I have offered the entire assembly up to find that the combined height of gasket 29, nozzle well 28 and gasket 27 leaves a substantial (1/16") gap between the carb and bowl faces. Offering it all up without gasket 27 leaves a 1/32 gap which I would imagine a gasket and careful tightening would cover.
Could someone tell me please whether I NEED gasket 27 or not? If I DO need it, should I cut more gaskets for the carb/bowl joint, or should I file 1/32 off the bottom of the platic nozzle well?
Any pointers gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.
