Hello all. As I am reading through my Merc Service Manual before jumping in with a wrench, one thing that it suggests consistently is to clean with solvent and use compressed air to dry most parts before reinstalling. This may be kind-of a stupid question, but what exactly am I supposed to clean all of these parts with? I'll be:

? rebuilding the fuel pump
? rebuilding the water pump

any guidance would be much appreciated. achilles.

Use brake cleaner on anything metal, do not use it on any seals, rubber or plastic parts.

The fuel pump will have instructions and all the parts needed. Really nothing to clean as you will replace the parts. Very simple job, just make sure you follow instructions. As far as the water pump, when was the last time it was done, may be better off just buying a complete pump assy and replace it, it's only about $10.00 more. Just make sure you get the water tube installed correct and slid up into the mid section, that seems to be where most people have problems..
