Help with my pulley steering system in my boat Please! Thankyou

Below is a picture of my steering system on my boat and i have figured out this much so far (i didn't take pics of it before removing it damn ;(<br /><br />Anyway i have installed this much so far and i still have 4 more wheels and 2 springs to attach but i can't figure it out! Can someone finish off the picture around the motor from where i finished off the line. I know i have to guide the steering cable thruogh the motor bay holes So a rough job on the pic (just so i know where everything goes) so i will know how to do it will help heaps. Its a pulley/drum system on a dehavilland boat<br /><br />

found this on a whaler site. guy asking the same question. here's the response-<br />"Both cables come off the helm and go through the pulleys mounted in the starboard seat clamp. From there they pass to two pulleys in the starboard stern corner of the boat. From there one goes directly to the motor and the other passes in front of the motor to the port stern corner pulley and thence to the motor.<br /><br />The tiller rope tighteners (springs) can be in line anywhere but usually on this boat I've seen one each on each side of the motor in between the ends of the cable and the motor itself."<br />hope it helps somewhat. p.s. like your drawing.

will just add to make sure the drum is set so<br />the cables are level. otherwise they will come<br />off the drum which could be VERY dangerous at<br />full throttle. if your budget allows, I would<br />reccomend looking into getting a newer set-up.<br />I had some bad experiences with these old cable<br />systems, but many have worked fine for years.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

thankyou my man<br /><br />Going to go install the steering right now. If all goes well im going to go down to the georges river and go test out my boat so happy fianlly completing my 6 month project<br /><br />Thanks for all the help. Without iboats help i would of been dumbfounded have the time <br /><br />! Happy new year

y2jericho-- an added note check the tension on your cables after the first couple of times you use the boat. I had that same set up on an older boat,installed new cables and system worked ok,if I checked and tightened the cable. After about 10 trips to the lake got the tension set right and had no problems.

P.S if installing new cable you will probably need to turn the system through both directions of the turning radius about 20 times to eliminate the cable stretch. It's not real stretching, but just getting all the kinks and bends straightened out.

just one little thing, make sure the cables criss cross after they come off the drum or the boat will turn the opposite direction

Bad news. Everything worked fine just the motor only runs on 3 cylinders<br /><br />Theres water going into the engine bay showing that the seals might be bust and it doesn't fire properly on 2 cylinders because the pressure isn't right or sometihng (so my mechanic says). Have to remove the whole engine block and everything just to get to them. Its cylinders 3 and 4 closest to the ground<br /><br />The motor is a Mercury Thunderbolt 1970 650cc 65hp<br /><br />Any ideas?? <br /><br />Thanks for the awesome help again
