Ive got a 20' privateer with a built in aluminum tank. The tank is in bad condition from what can be seen through deck hatches. I run on above deck poly fuel tanks. The built in tank has been drained down but I still smell fuel fumes in the bilge. What can I do to get the remaining fuel and fumes out of that tank. Thanks.

Remove the tank? and possibly the foam surrounding it.

Is there anything else I can do to flush or clean out the tank short of cutting out the deck to remove it?

Re: help with old fuel tank!!

I just found a product online called Biosolve which added to bilge water or fuel tank it rapidly eliminates vapors and odors associated with diesel fuel and gasoline. BioSolve will emulsify and encapsulate the fuel, eliminating, the vapor release of fuel floating on bilge water thus eliminating or decreasing the danger of fuel explosions and fire. Its approved by IMO
(International Maritime Organization) as an authorized
Tank Cleaning Agent that may be used to clean
NLS (Noxious Liquid Substance) tanks at sea. I'll call the company on monday to find out more info but it may be a solution to cutting out the tank.
