help with older 35 hp evinrude

just got this and it will not run unless i shoot gas in the front of carb, when i pump the primer bulb it has gas going up through the filter and into the hose that looks like it goes to the bottom of the carb, runs fine if i keep shooting gas into carb,, fuel pump and if so where do find iton the motor.

ps model number appears to be 33053r cant read 1st 2 numbers verry well

look on the block for a freeze plug with the model and serial # on it. sounds like a contaminated carb (nice word for dirty/crudy), cleaning and rebuild kit. see the TOP SECRET FILE, 1st thread in this forum.

Need a better model number. That one doesn't exactly match my list. It may be on a round freeze plug on the power head somewhere...

A 33053r is a rope-start 1970 33 hp Evinrude. That could easily be what you have.

You should be able to go to a local Marine repair shop and ask for a carb kit, as for the model # they should be able to look it up in their reference computer or book, they should just need the year and HP, if you can read the Model# on the trim bracket it will tell you what year it is, carb kits are inexpensive...Roughly $20 for that HP...(I used to rebuild those quite a bit), the year is the last to letters of the model#, the sequence is INTRODUCES..I=1, N=2 and so on...S=0.......so if the model # ends in ER it is a 1994, the rest of the letters are for length of shaft and specific components, but the local marina will be able to find it for you......Hope it helps.
