Hi everyone, new to the forums here.

I have a 1974 Evinrude 50hp model 50443m, I need a lower unit for it and am curious if anyone knows what models are compatible. Mine is listed as a "long", to my understanding there are several years that will interchange. Any help is appreciated. Of course if anyone knows of someone that has a lower unit or blown motor for sale that's always a plus..lol...thanks again

Some people will know off the top of their heads but I’m not one of them. I’d suggest finding a good exploded view of the motor in a parts supplier like marineengine.com and start comparing part numbers for several key components like lower unit housing, impeller, drive shaft, pinion gears, etc and see which years take the same part numbers. Off hand, I think 71 thru at least 75 are the same motor.

The 71 and 72 models are electric shift and will not work.------A 1974 model uses an oil pump to assist in shifting ( mechanical , pressure assisted )-----Shifts to forward with a DOWN motion of the shift rod.------Only used for a few years ,1973 and 1974.-----Other units will bolt on but go in REVERSE when you want to go forward.------And 3 cylinder lower units do not fit either.------Careful in your shopping !----If in Canada----evinrudeparts.ca -----might be able to help.----Your location ?
