I am wasn't sure if this was the best place for my question...I have picked up a used 75 HP Evinrude for my toon. It needs a new shine, so I have it in my garage waiting to be stripped and then primed and painted. I am going to buy new stickers for it, but was wondering what kind of paint would be best to use on it. I know I can go get the ol' can effect, but I want something that is going to look really good and last more improtant. I was thinking of getting auto paint and rolling it on. I have helped before with technique and looks pretty good if done right. Also any help with a color would be good, I am open to some ideas to a new color scheme and design. Thx

Re: Help with Painting outboard

You can get great results with rattle cans if you do it right and buy good paint.

1. All the aluminum areas need to thoroughly degreased.

2. Once done, sand with 220 grit paper (wet prefered).

3. Wash all the aluminum areas with 50/50 siolution of white vinegar and water.

4. Prime bare aluminum areas with zinc chromate primer.

5. Spray on your favorite color.
