I have an Alpha One Gen one leg and after a complete rebuild at the end of last season I am looking to install a remote oil reservoir inside the boat, I have aqquired the tubing and mercruiser bottle, what i dont seem to be able to get is the part that attatches to the end of the tube and then screws into the (now oil level check) hole at the top of the drive. I would appreciate any help in tracking one down if anyone knows a shop that will post to the uk, or if someone would be kind enough to send me one, i would obviously cover all cost, I have PayPal & Nochex accounts.
Also I have been told that the bottle should be mounted at the same height as where the tube enters the drive? is this correct as i thought it might have to be higher?

Thanks in advance

If that were True,.... The Bottle would have to be mounted in the Bottom of the Bilge.........
As a matter of fact,
The Bottle Has to be mounted Higher than where it comes through the Transom........
Otherwise it Can/Could get Air-Bound.............

You could Easily build your own system with locally available parts........
With the Exception of the 1 fitting that goes from the(Vent/Fill hole size) 3/8ths" X 16 pitch, to 1/4" Hose Barb........

Good Luck...

Re: Help with parts

You could actually buy the whole kit from Mercruiser if you wanted, but it lists for about $95. (See picture below)
You can also order just the hose barb fitting for less than $6. The part number for the fitting is 22-16739 (#8 in the picture).

Re: Help with parts

I've got the kit.

Mounting instructions says transom hole to be about 1 inch above the top edge of the gimbal housing and 8.25 inch to the side of the centre line.

Mount reservior to transsom or suitable spot where it may be observed easily and is within limits of hose. Bottom of reservior must be at same level or above drive unit oil vent hole. I read this to mean: no lower than drive vent hole.

Hope this helps.

Re: Help with parts

Am I understanding this right? Will the part that Don has pointed out (#8) screw into the drain/vent hole?

DougV>

Re: Help with parts

neil
one other thing
some of the early kits used a flare fitting similar to a brake line or trim hose line. the fitting is still avalible for that style as well. the part number is a beast to find but I have it written down in one of my manuals. so we also need to know what the hose end you have looks like at the point of attachment to the drive.

Re: Help with parts

Neil

Couldn't post pics. So here's the descriptive form:

The kit differs from the pics that Don posted. Essentially done differently.

1. Hose is a single assembly with one half a stainless steel braided hose and spliced to a plain rubber hose. The braided hose length is 21 inches long, the rubber half is 36 inches.

2. There is no 90 degree fitting that bolts through the transom. A 90 deg cover is provided that goes over this hole. The stainless steel portion of the hose terminates at the inlet to this cover. The bend is on the rubber hose.

3. The termination at the end of the stainless steel hose is a 90 degree male fitting. This fitting mates with a brass fitting that screws onto the drive vent plug hole.

Hope this helps.

Qystan
You can't post pictures from your computer, they must be on the web someplace, perhaps a photo hosting website where you can upload your pictures so you can get a URL.
