I am prepping a fiberglass boat for paint. there are many existing screw size holes that i want to fill and sand. i have some marine epoxy putty, is this good for above and below the waterline? any other suggestions on products to use would be helpful

I would drill the existing screw holes with a drill bit just a bit wider than the current holes. You'll get clean fiberglass so grab into. Then you can fill them in with the white Marine-Tex. Just make sure the holes are completely dry or the Marine-Tex will fall out in no time. A epoxy resin might be a better bet but Marine-Tex is very simple to use.

If you are painting the boat, then Marine Tex epoxy is a good product to use. Chamfer the holes with a 1/2" drill, be careful to not go through the hull. That will give more surface are for the epoxy to grip to. I did this on my MFG before filling the screw holes and they have not loosened or leaked.
