Yes, if someone could help me please? I have a Mariner 175, 1987.
It has a 3 blade SS prop with the name Predator on it , no other markings that I can find. I measured the dia. it is 14". I don't know how to measure
the pitch or rake, I'd like help with that please. Oh, the book on the motor
said the " Full Throttle RPM Range" is 5300-5800, if that helps. The motor is
on a 18' Stratros 181 Pro, 1987. I ate the prop up bad in river and don't know if I can repair it or if it would be cheaper to replace. All help appreicated
Thanks! Dave L.

How many RPMs were you turning with it at WOT? If within range of recommended, then have it rebuilt by a prop shop.

Re: Help with Prop repair or replace

You cannot measure pitch. A prop shop uses a pitch block to check pitch. Did you remove the prop nut and check the hub for a part number or manufacturer code. Check the prop very carefully -- the numbers, names and/or codes are sometimes hard to see. The rpm listed in the manual is the target wide open throttle rpm. The number that's important to us is the rpm you actually observe on the tach at wide open throttle with an average load. That reading tells us how close to ideal the existing prop is. Without that number we don't have a clue whether it's right for the boat. Prop repair is generally cheaper than replacement, but then it depends on how bad it's damaged.

Re: Help with Prop repair or replace

Thanks for quick reply! When I brought the boat 6 years ago, (1987 Stratros
181-Pro Bass Boat 18') it would do 70-71 mph (speedo) at 6000 rpm or just
under that (5700-5800) if I remember right. Had a Mechanic ride with/and
drive the boat and test it out and he thought it performed real good. I see if
I can go down stairs and take prop off and look for numbers. I think Predator
is just a name of the prop not the Brand. Also will measure the jack Plate.
Be right back.....Thanks! Dave L.

Jack Plate is 5" Max Force, Springfield Marine. Can't find any numbers on prop
Motor also overheats. Tell-tale spitting instead of pissing sometimes. Put 2
impellers on in the last 5 yrs. Do you guys think I should change the cup or housing too this time??? Ah, maybe the thermostat too???? Is this hard to do? I've been layed off since Jan. !st, just trying to save some coins! Also how do you measure prop height above pad??? I think my water inlets might
be runnning to high??? The overheat alarm does not go off until I'm up on
plane. Thanks for all the help........Dave L.
