Hoping someone can enlighten me as how to secure the below part from my remote control:

6023672205_f4ed12ac3c.jpg

I am able to push it into place to secure the throttle cable, but after several days/hours of use, the vibrations cause it to fall out again, sometimes while still underway.

Without really being able to see what is going on behind the control, I have only been able to "feel" where it goes. Is there something that is supposed to hold this part in place? I can feel a bit of resistence when I put it in, but obviously not enough to hold it in place permanently.

The control is on a 2000 Glastron and looks similar to this:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Help with Remote Control

It depends on that motor and controller most and motor specific, It will have 2 cables that go into the motor to attach to leavers and the cable ends have to be of a type for that type of motor and they attach and often have a clip of some sort to hold it on.

Thats about the best I can do with out specific information on your motor and controller.

That piece goes over the cables metal end where the groove in the cable is. Then if fits in a round socket in the control to keep the outer portion of the cable from moving. But allows it to pivot inside the socket.

Some use a cover over it, some use a long cotter pin to hold it in place, not exacty sure with your control.

Re: Help with Remote Control

After taking pictures of the control connections and not seeing what I was hoping to find, I took apart the control where the throttle cable attaches.

I fould three parts:

1) A black plastic clip
2) The metal tube that clips onto the throttle cable
3) A cylindrical metal piece that item 2 goes into and connects to item 1 (Not shown in pictures)

I do not see any way to attach or keep item #2 into the black plastic piece. I was able to find a parts diagram showing the black plastic piece (#44) and the cylindrical piece (#43) but do not see item #2 anywhere.

Any other ideas to keep it from falling out or what it is supposed to look like?

Looks to me like the white clip has a hole in each of the tabs. When inserted into the black bracket, one would insert the long cotter pin as Don suggested. But that only applies if there are mating holes in the black piece.

Re: Help with Remote Control

That piece is to hold the outer cable in place while allowing it to pivot somewhat. So don't use anything like glue or such to keep it place from falling out. If you know how it is coming out you could drill a small hole in the black part and insert a cotter pin to keep it in place while still allowing it so move. But unless there is another part that is broken or even missing I don’t know why it is coming out. Surely they didn’t design this setup with an obvious flaw like that... I’d check over everything with the diagram to verify all parts are there and working properly for starters...

Re: Help with Remote Control

Using the pictures below.
Put part A on the cable so it fits in the groove of the cable.
Push part A and the cable up into part B with the legs of part A going into B first.
Then bolt it to the control so parts A and B are over the metal plate. Once bolted on, A can't slide out of B

Re: Help with Remote Control

There is only one hole in either piece, and that is on the black piece to attach it to the control. There are no signs of any breakage. When installed, the metal piece (#2) sits flush with the top of the black piece, so there isn't much room to be drilling anything.

You posted at the same time I did, so you didn't see the pictures I posted.

That is it - Part A was installed, esentially, "upside down" by whomever replaced the throttle cable.

Thanks again Don.

Edited to add:

This is the best type of repair - One that doesn't involve buying parts!! :)

I will change the shift cable attachment too while I am under there. The only reason that one hasn't fallen out is that is is up against the gunwhale. <---If that is the right term?
