I have a 78 85 chrysler and the thermoswitch is busted, part is obsulate, can I replace it with a temperture sender and attach it to a buzzer or put a gauge on it instead.
Re: help with replacement of thermoswitch on 1978 85 chrysler
You can not use a buzzer with a temperature sender. You can buy a gauge with a sender that screws into the top of the head where the slotted stainless plug is. You still use the orange wire and connect it to one side of the gauge under the dash. The other side is connected to ground.

No! You would need to rethread the hole to pipe thread AND it would need to be deep enough to penetrate into the combustion chamber. There are surface mount senders that use an "L" shaped bracket to hold the sensor to the head. These can be mounted almost anywhere. BUT---They are much slower to respond to temperature changes.
Forgot to tell you last answer: Even though the thermoswitch is obsolete, try franzmarine@aol.com He may very likely have one.
