I'm not too good with electronics, so looking for some help.

One speaker in my 88 Four Winns recently quit working. I looked at it today and speaker itself was in good shape, so I tested it with test light for power. I grounded test light to the boats battery, when I hit the wire, the light lit up and the speaker worked great.

Seems to me that this speaker is not correctly grounded? If so, how do I go about fixing it. If not, what could the problem be.

from your info, i'd think you are right. if the test light made a diff, then it is probably a ground issue. to correct that, use a jumper cable clamped to your tester light gator clip. if that works, then sneak the gator clip out of the picture... :D

just kidding. if all works well, i'd say you should lay a new ground wire back to the output device. ;)

Ebb, thanks for the help and the humor. I will try to trace the ground wire and check for problems, but sounds easiest to run a new ground wire.

Any other ideas!

Re: Help with Speaker Wiring

only if you could swap the grnd wires of the spkrs to verify the 'theory' ;)

really, you can swap any (similar or bigger sized) wire, as long as you do it on both 'ends'. its just a new wire you're using to troubleshoot with- right? :)
