Merc sportjet 175 XR2 manu.1997

Needed to replace switch boxes and stator ~2 years ago. Ordered them but didnt have the time to put them in. The boat sat for those 2 years. I didnt mark the position of the old stator and it was removed 2 years ago. The instructions for cdi stator says to mark position of the old one and install the new one in same spot. there are dozen of holes that would line up properly on the stator and i dont want to install it in the wrong spot and fry my new boxes, ecm, VR or anything else. The service manual says nothing about how/where to place it only to install it in "factory placement" which is pretty silly if you ask me.

does anyone have a Merc SJ or know about them as to where the stator neededs to be placed?

*fingers crossed*

Just realized there's a mercruizer inboard forum. This might go there so please move it accordingly.

your in tha right place.. it is an "outboard motor"... think yours is a 16 amp chargin' system.. tha 40 will only fit one way.. some say it has ta go a certain way but I've experimented with tha 16 in several positions and did not see any difference.. it actually mounts with tha harness comin' down on tha right side just above and a little left of tha starter.. almost even with tha flanges where tha block splits......
