Help with storing I/O motor...

Hi,

So it looks like I need to remove my I/O 305 Mercruiser before I can get serious about fixing the floor and transom of my boat. The marine repair shop will take the motor out for $270(is that reasonable?) but I need help with how to store and move it once I get it home.

I have looked on Ebay at engine stands but wondering if the $79 version with 750lb capacity will be enough and if there are better options. Wondering if I should have the repair shop put it on a pallet but then how do I get it off truck into garage...

This is my first attempt at fixing a boat so assume I know nothing!

That's not too hateful.
An engine stand would be the way to go. 750# should do it.

Ayuh,...

The back of the motor will have to be stripped to mount it to an Engine Stand,...

I find that using a Furniture Dolly, 1 of the 18"x 24", wooden, 4 wheeled thingys,(get the bigger wheels) with a couple of 2x4s screwed to it can easily handle a full dressed V8...
It'll sit right on the motor mounts,+ the ears on the bottom of the flywheel cover...
Just screw it on good...

For getting it Off your truck,.... Can't you sling off your grage ceiling or trusses,..?? Maybe a Big lag-eye in the main Door Frame,..??
Then lift it with a come-a-long off the truck, pull the truck out,+ lower it onto the dolly...

Thank you for the responses back! I like the idea of furniture dollies as I think my brother has a couple. I am going to see if I can use a utility trailer with a ramp to roll it off....wish me luck!

By the way taking it out isn't a big deal. First remove the drive. You ever do a car motor, not to different, remove everything that won't let it move, then have a good tree limb about 15 feet off the floor, back the boat under it, and then lift it with a 1/2 ton hoist or come a long .

Pull the boat out from under it and lower the motor to the dolly. Then with a good strong back push it where you want it, if you have everything ready maybe 2 hours less if you did it before.
