I recently installed a water pump on a 1986 evinrude 90hp v4. i just ran the boat in the lake, and it has strong water pressure coming from the tell tale. although i noticed water leaking out of the midsection. its coming down from the midsection onto the lower unit. it seems to be from the water pump because its flowing quickly. it only seems to happen during idle not when the boat is at WOT.

Can I run the motor like this? I really dont want to pull the lower again, it doesnt leak bad, and it has plenty of water pressure

have you checked it running with the cowl off? to make sure it is not coming from the block.

hope you don't mind I just had to ask - did you really hang off the boat at WOT to check this out? or another boater?

while I'm at it one nuther question - I see the word "BOAT" printed on your stern - is that the name of the boat, or is it just for identification purposes? Does your truck say "TRUCK" on the tailgate? :D

JTextas, my guess is it's kinda like the batcave where everything has a nice neat label.

Maybe it's really B.O.A.T.

There should be a round rubber seal piece on the shift shaft. Are you sure it was there when the lu went back on?

And don't think you're the first, or only one, to have left that piece off......
