Help with year and shaft lenght

I am looking at buying a 18 hp engine that is over 200 miles away. The owner is older and doesnt know if its a long shaft or short. He gave me the model and serial number.
So, what year is it? Long or short shaft. Any known intrinsic issues and what should i look for buying this engine, will be used on 15' 6" achilles inflatable.
