Help !

I have a recently purchased 88 Yamaha 40 on a bass buggy. I noticed the last time out the volt meter almost pegged while runing full throttle. I cut on lights, live well etc. and it dropped. Slowed down seemed fine. Cut everything off and at full throttle back up again. Is this ok? or what can I do to fix this.

Howdy.<br /><br />Your voltage should be up to about 14, 14-1/2volts when charging with a regulated alternator.<br /><br />Don't know what it takes to peg your voltmeter.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
