ok. i got a 2000 larson 206 lxi w/ a volvo penta 5.0 w/ four hrs on the whole thing.

it was is inside storage for the last four years. it was given to us for free. it also came w/ a matching trailer.

problems for the last three weeks it was stored out side w/ the draing plug installed. and yes it has been raininng dogs & cats lately.
the lower half of the eng. was under water.
i drained all the fluids & filters. replaced the electric fuel pump.
the eng will run w/ gas or starting fluid in the carb w/ no problem.

i tested the old starter direct & it was not running. same as the new one.
i replaced the relay same problem.

what gives?
any suggestions?

If the starter does not work, how did you get the engine to fire on gas or starting fluid??

Re: Help?????

have you given it time to dry out good? Most any thing electrical can get dunked, but you got to get the water out or it will short.
If you powered up with damp components, they may be damaged now.

now that's a good question.... ::redface:

Re: Help?????

If the starter was underwater, time for it to be rebuilt by a shop.

sorry, not my starter. it is my fuel pump.

the eng. starts w/ no problem spraying starting fluid or put some gas down the carb.
it will run until the fluid is gone in the carb.

If the starter was underwater, it is only a matter of time; get it rebuilt.

Re: Help?????

Best advice yet!! Please buy a boat cover! You would be surprised the damage rain water will do to the interior and floor if carpeted.
In that new of condition i would not dream of letting it get rained in.
I have seen 3 or 4 year old boats rotted bad by that..

Sorry, had to rant but it just kills me to see boats ruined...

That's great advice, Gary.... I see so many $5000 boats sitting under $10 tarps and getting destoyed.... a ~$500 to $700 investment in a custom made snap on cockpit cover is the best thing to make boating so much more enjoyable

That's right up there with the $3.79 investment(starting fluid) that destroys a $4000 engine.

So!

Doesn't matter how much you used. You got lucky.

That stuff is highly volatile and has a nasty habit of lighting off at the wrong time, and when it does, things get bent and or broken.
