What is the difference between an OMC 4.3l and an GM 4.3l? All casting numbers are the same and no one has been able to tell me the actual differences. They all have different answers and that leads me to believe they dont really know. Please any help is greatly appreciated.

Spence you don't say what yr engine you are looking at and I'm no expert except I use to own a 4.3 engine. The engine was actually a convert Buick engine OMC used. OMC and GM 4.3 are the same engine. If it has a two barrel it was 175 hp, if 4 barrel it was a 205 hp. OMC brought the engines from GM and put the OMC drives to them, you see a lot of Cobra drives on 4.3 engines. For the most part Volvo and OMC used GM blocks no matter what size and Mercury used Ford blocks. Happy boating.

The motor I removed is an 87 out of a 19.5'Regal cuddy cabin. Getting ready to take it to the machine shop for checking. Had a lot of water in oil and spun bearing, Just trying to prepare myself for replacing it... all manifolds etc... can be used off the original motor but wanted to see what options were without going bankrupt because it says 'marine'
