1994 mercury 2 stoke

trying to hook up a rectifer and regulator together without grounding to the outboard.. its causing my boat to become a ground when outboard not running.. anyone have any ideas or a wiring diagram to hook the regulator and rectifer up??? thanks

You have to ground it as this is what completes the circuit and where excess voltage/heat is bled off to ground/block. Boat needs to be grounded to motor anyway...
