I bougght what is suppose to be a 1950's johnson 5 or 5.5 hp outboard. It is in cosiderable condition but I need a impeller the one in it is dry rotted and a couple of the tabs are broke off. the part # 377178 shown in your catolog looks to be what i am looking for. The motor has no recoil, throtle lever is on front of engine cover, it has one fuel mixture knob on top with numbers 1-6 and a shift lever is also on top it has 1 speed forward, If there is anyone who can give me some fast imformation on this motor please let me know as soon as possible. THANKS

AV2, you need to give us the model and serial number usually appears on the mounting clamp.<br /> It appears to be an early 50s motor.<br />It has neutral,forward and 360 degree reverse.<br />If the motor has been sitting a long time youll need to go through the fuel system.<br />The knob on top is the high speed adjust. you adjust it at speed for the best speed with it set slightly toward rich.I believe the low speed adj is on the front of the power head a metal rod screwed into what looks like a couple of copper tubes.Adjust lowspeed in gear.
