I found a motor for my boat that is in excellent shape. Ran it last night at the shop, very clean good compression etc. Question is this. The cover says 150HP the S/n on the trim/tilt unit with model states 200xt as the first digits and the tag on the stator arm states timing spec for a 1977 200hp. Owner claims its a 150hp to his knowledge. The casing of the block on the head side has a flat surface face. He showed me a EV 200hp that looks the same but has a raised surface on the casing toward the lower part of the housing. Is there any other stamping on the block that can identify the HP? Thinking is that tilt mount may have been changed but tag on the arm has me wondering.

Pst..... We would need the complete model number to pin point the year and horsepower of the engine. The 200xt really doesn't tell us much. <br /><br />There should be a plate on the port transom bracket that contains the model & serial number. Also, there is a core plug (looks like a small freeze out plug) on top of the block that should contain those numbers. If memory serves me properly, that core plug would be on top of the port side, near the cylinder head gasket.<br /><br />Get back to us with that model number and we'll tell you what you have there.

Thanks Joe, I will check it out tonight and get the numbers. The plate on the transom Bracket is there Model and S/n. I only grabbed the first few digits of the Model # . Should the numbers on the tag match the number on the core plug if it is all original assemblies?

If original equipment, they should match. There have been times when the model number might have been missing from the core plug, but the serial number would be there, and it would be the same. Let us know what you find on both.

These are the numbers off the motor. Core plug # and transom bracket numbers match.Thats a good sign. <br />Model 2001XLT77C<br />S/n J4792352<br /><br />My guess is 77 200hp with lift and trim. But casing is definitely different than another 200 Ev that is in the shop.<br /><br />Thanks for the help<br />Paul

Just checkin for any info on my last post. I was not sure how to post a follow up response this morning so ended up with a double post on the same subject. Thinking thats probably a no/no. Have gotten no feed back and woundered if the numbers I got were any good. I told the guy that has the motor I would let him know tonight if I would purchase it from him but I wanted to make sure I know what size engine I'm buying.<br /> Thanks for any help on this
