Two boaters from Land O Lakes Florida were boating in the Bahamas when their 25' boat capsized. This pair of boaters had an EPIRB and it was activated. A Coast Guard plane was sent from Miami but didn't locate them. A rescue helo was sent from Clearwater, Florida and tracked the boaters to a rock they were clinging to. A nearby pleasure craft was vectored in and made the rescue. No details on their condition. The report stated "the boaters owe their lives to the EPIRB device".....

Much different ending than the one with the four football players.

As we are considering a newer, larger boat we have decided we won't be out in it without a locator device.

Epirbs have gotten cheap enough and easy enough to use that there's no real reason not to have one if you go offshore or even to isolated areas like I go sometimes, glad to hear it turned out alright.

There's a pretty good article in this month's Florida Sportsman on them, if you get a chance to check it out.
