Good Lord willing, and the creek don't rise, I'll be going to pick up my Skeeter next weekend (leaving on the 18th) so you guys with Skeeters get ready, I'll keep you busy with questions.

Cheers,

Dan

Re: Here we go guys!

Nice boat. Bought mine new in '81. Still have her. SS-1 Fisherman, mine is. Would consider getting a new or newer one, but I also like to use mine for hunting, an you just can't get 3 or 4 deer in the bottom of the newer models - too many storage boxes cluttering up the bottom. And you can't get red carpet anymore (hide the blood :D :D )

Maybe you need to dye it brown or see if you can get some raw umber. Blood isn't red very long. :D Everything else is camo these days, why not camo carpet?

Re: Here we go guys!

Naw, the red and black flecked carpet is just perfect - except the wife no longer goes with me the first couple of trips in the spring - it takes about 3 or 4 trips to the carwash with the high pressure spray to get the blood out of the carpet. She hates getting the blood on her knees.

But it is always funny watching the people behind me at the carwash as all the bloddy water is pouring out the drain. Definately get some interesting looks.

Man, can you tell that hunting season is upon us?

By the way, wannago, is the 18th when you are getting the Strada, or are you getting a new one on the 18th?

Going to pick up a used one on the 18th, but it's a few miles from here - around 1,100. It's an '86 with a 75 Merc that's in excellent shape. The guy lives near a lake so I can try it out before buying it. Gonna bring my long johns 'cause it could get a bit chilly on a lake this time of year doing 45-50.

Minor set back. I had my video camera sold, but the guy wouldn't pay for it so I had to re-list it. I think I have it sold but not counting any chickens before they hatch. As soon as I get the money in my hot little hands, I'm on my way!

Dan

Re: Here we go guys!

So, if you sell your video camera, how are you gonna film all them basses you are gonna catch in your new ride, and sell the footage to Jimmy Huston for his show? There goes your income!

Re: Here we go guys!

Guess what? I sold the camera today and I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon! Got the cash in my pocket.

Aspeck - I've got another camera. It's not as good as the one I sold, but it is a nice one. I also have a nice 6.1 megapixle Kodak digital still camera that I've been using to get pics of the bass.

I'll post a couple of photos of the boat when I get back. If the temp stays over 50, I'M GOING FISHIN'!

Dan

Re: Here we go guys!

2,349 miles and 64.5 hours later, I am back at home with a new (to me) Skeeter F-80! I made the trip this weekend and all went well. I know most of you would believe me a nut to drive all that way for a boat, and I heartily agree. But, I couldn't find a better deal closer, and besides, I needed to get away from home for a few days.

I only broke one rule. I didn't go for a test ride before buying it. I was sure from the photos it was well taken care of - his house and yard are immaculate - but after meeting him, it wasn't necessary. We had planned on it, but it meant we would have had to stay overnight, and we were in a hurry. I have the original receipt for the boat, motor, trailer, and trolling motor, plus ALL the owner's manuals too. Besides, he's a h*** of a nice guy and I don't think he'd let me drive all that way to look at a junker. I'm a fair judge of character and if I thought for one milisecond he was shady, we would have gone out.

God was good to me. He held off the rain until we got home. It started sprinkling about 15 miles before reaching home and started coming down after we got the truck unloaded. He did, however, say I'd have to wait a couple of days before I could take the boat out fishin.
No, I got it in Lakeview, Arkansas. I didn't tell anyone here on the forums where it was 'cause a lot of you guys are closer ;) I hope to take her out this weekend. Gonna be cold, but calm and dry. It started raining when I got home and now it's blowing a gale . . . gusts 40-45 mph.

Dan

Re: Here we go guys!

Ive had two 15' Bass boats, a Ranger and a Skeeter. They were both tri hull type designs. I liked the Ranger better, but just because it was a single console and had a better rod locker.

You will like your boat, I liked those smaller boats because I could go into some shallower places than I can go now. My next boat will be in the 20 foot range only because I guide now and have seen the need for more than an 18' boat.

Re: Here we go guys!

This one has only one console, and like you, I prefer it. More room! The rod locker is kinda small, but I'm thinking I can can add a 3-4 rod holder to the lid of the rod locker. The hinge is toward the center of the boat, (opening inward)so the rods won't hit the inside of gunwhale. Being small, there is a severe shortage of storage. But, I do love this boat. After fishing out of a jon, this will be a pleasure.

Dan
