Boy, do I have a wild one for you to think about. To tantalize you, about 15 months ago I had to replace the cam and lifters in my OMC/Ford King Cobra 5.8L engine. (It's in a '92 Sea Swirl 25-5. The engine had 985 hrs on it.) A year later, I was going the long block route and getting the same work done for the second time... very frustrating and quite spendy to say the least.
This time I went to a different mech, who subbed out the actual engine block work to a very well-known and respected engine rebuilder. I finally got back in the water a couple of weeks ago.
The question is: given proper maintenance and engine care, why did this happen again? To begin the quest for the right answer, first tell me this:
Where is the cam/mfg info found on the cam for this engine? What does the number "942194", found on the end of the cam, tell me?
I Hope someone wants to "play!!" The story is kind of interesting.
Regards,
Trapper
