What a shame that a boat had to suffer for a irresponsible person.:(
looked like a nice boat.

I hope he did that the night before. I could almost understand not seeing that sand pile at night. Even sober!!

200% clearly marked channel, the whole island is in a no wake zone.

There is no way this would happen, even when sober, if you were following the law.

That is terrible. Did you see the show about the water police on Lake Havasu? They stopped one nice jet boat with four occupants, and the cop asked the driver, "How much boating experience do you have?" The guy answered "about two or three beers." Needless to say, he blew a .247 or something crazy like that.

Re: Here's what happens when you get wasted on the water..

i seen something similar a couple years ago on the missouri river. a cruiser high centered on a wing dike. who knows how ya do that. just drive right off the water... amazing...http://www.omahariverfront.com/ can't link to the pics. but bottom right of the homepage is titled slide show in red. river boat rescue is the link to where pics from the scene can be seen... i drove by the day before. boat all lonely sitting all by itself on top of the dike..

similar to the pic but worse. couple weekends ago. some fella ran a boat at night into a concrete retaining wall at a small man made lake over in omaha. 1 died. 1 charged today with manslaughter... bui.... :(

"How much boating experience do you have?" The guy answered "about two or three beers."
wrong answer and a pretty sure sign that all things are not well...

If you look close at center photo there is an anchor line going into the water. He might've just anchored & the tide went down with the boat over the sandbar? Of course he could've anchored it after he wrecked it so it wouldn't float away while he was in jail &/or hospital.

If I had to guess he wasn't moving when it happened. The motor looks trimmed up, and it's anchored. But I've been right already once today so it may not happen again. Still doesn't mean alcohol wasn't involved.

He was def moving. The other side of the boat is cracked straight down the side. He hit it really hard, then anchored it off so it didn't float away. However the tide never comes up high enough to do that anyway

That is pretty easy to do at night if you are navigating via GPS and do not have any way to have it look at Marine navigation way points. The GPS will show you a straight line, so without any Marine navigating overlays that tell you to come in at a different angle you will go right over something like unless you know how wide to stay out and then come in.

Yep, if that happened at night, very easy to do...at least he trimmed up the stern drive :)

Re: Here's what happens when you get wasted on the water..

I am thinking the tide was higher when he did this. The shear speed needed to get that heavy rig that far over the sand to me is amazing. And unless there is a drop off right at the edge, the sand several feet off the bar would have slowed him down a lot.
