Grandma has an older grew with a 490 model engine(i'm pretty sure). its the POS with the Interchanger tube on the side of the engine...anyways, when she idles it and then gives it gas to go, i know she hesitates, so i thought it just might be her imagination, but then it started with me, and i have no quams about givin it. What happens basically is that the boat will start to come out of the water, but then you hear a gasping noise from the engine comp. and then the boat jumps ahead again and its ready to go. what is goin on, i think it might be the float in the carb not havin enough fuel in the resevoir...

any help would be great

OK, That give almost zero information, but let me guess, It's a Mercruiser 470 with the heat exhcanger on the port side of the engine......am I close???

Hesitation problem
Possibly carb adjustment, accelerator pump circuit not working properly, water in the fuel. Did you check the fuel filter for water?
How long since it had a complete tuneup. Bad points, plugs, cap, or rotor will cause the problem.
Along with the timing advance not working.
