hey guys, i just acquired a (what i think is a 1954 --7514--7.5) with the broken shock absorber spring and it pushed the center out of the lower water pump housing and bent the wear plate, messed up the keyway in the impeller also .are these parts expensive and where can i get them? also this motor has what i think is a 1957 engine couling on it, the tag on the clamps claims 7514 which is a 1954 is there casting numbers on the block to tell for sure what year? i am trying to locate 2 pull rope guides that protect the rope from the clamshell couling. thanks mike 540-379-1113

7514 is definately a 1954. However, if the cowling takes the rope eyelet then you could certainly have a 1957 cowling as the 1954 did not have this feature. The 1954 cowl is blue and silver where as the 1957 is blue, white and black with a plastic emblem on the side.

There is a silver disc on the starboard side of the engine block that should have the model number on it. The 1954 and 1957 Fleetwins had different exhaust housings (legs). The 1954-55 has a cover over the exhaust that you can take off where as the 1956-58 do not.

The shock absorber is obsolete so you have to get it from a boneyard, eBay, AOMCI free classified ad or where ever else you buy used parts. You can also compress it back down and spot weld it, but you'll have to switch to brass drivepins. The bearing housing (BRP 382796) is still available for $117. So get it from whoever you buy the parts. The wear plate (BRP 305303 or Sierra 18-3102) is $5-8.

Another possible way to tell if you have a 1957 cowling is (assuming the original decal is still in tact on the side) if it is a 1957 the word Evinrude will be in cursive letters. The 1954 model had the word Evinrude in Print. Hopefully that will help you!

thanks, i'm sure it's a 57 cowling blue, black and white with the plastic silver dollar size emblem. as for the motor it has what i think is the exhaust housing on the port side of the block between the crank and the cylinder head, so i think the 7514 is correct for this power head.i haven't had it fired but a few times and still not running right, not real sure it's worth puttin a whole lot of money into it. i don't know,it's a neat little boat motor. thanks guys mike

They are great little motors if you do get it going, but I'm sure you will have more money into it then it'll be worth. These motors are a labour of love. It'll cost about $200 in parts to do a complete tune-up, plus you need lower unit parts so factor in $50-150 for a used lower unit. Motor is only worth about $250 in nice running condition. Less if it doesn't look to pretty. In its present condition, it would go between $20-60 around here.

Personally, I'd fix it and enjoy it. Of course, I'm a sucker for a project.
