Re: Hey Duckcommander

What can I say, we all have some "Ernest" in us sometimes.

Last summer I decided I needed a new trolling motor for my little boat. I was out fishing earlier in the day and I just had the "big" motor to fart around in. Time for something different. So where else do I go, nowhere but the ol' trusty Wal-Mart on the way home from the fishing hole. Pick up a little hand held Min-Kota about 150$. Not to shabby for a 200$ boat huh?

Well I put it in the cart, and wheeled er out to my rig in the parking lot. There wasn't enough room in the vichele so I decided to put it on the floor of the boat. The thought diddnt even cross my mind that a big cardboard box might not make the 30 miles home going about 70mph, so off we went. As soon as I got on the highway I looked back, everything looked fine.

Alas, about a mile down the road something in the rear view mirror caught my eye(keep in mind by this time is it dark out). What is it you ask? A bird? A Plane? Nope, its my new trolling motor trying to impersinate superman. I just caught the shadow as it passed between me and the headlights of the 18 wheeler behind me. As you can imigine, I had a few words with myself.

Its a little gray what happened next with the trolling motor but it either passes under the rig or flew over it. Either way I was madder than a wet hen. I turned the rig around in the median to go back to the "scene".

When I got there I was expecting a new 1,000 peice motor, but when I found the box there was nothing in it. After looking around for a bit I spotted the rascal in the MIDDLE of the highway. All this time trafic was swerving around it.

As I dashed to obtain what was left of my motor I noticed that it was still intact  . "Holy Moly" I say., as I look to survey the damage. One scrach on the shaft is all that was wrong. Other than that it was still brand new.

Wondering if it would still run, I planed a trip to a nearby lake that next morning. After much waited anticipation I found out the thing worked just fine. Great I thought, barely got away with that one!!! :) :)

I started the outboard to go back home and turned the boat towards the boat ramp. As soon as I did I realized my fatal error. The trolling motor was mounted too close to the outboard. As soon as I made the turn, they got caught up and the outboard pulled the trolling motor off the stern of the boat. I watched it sink with my stomach in about 30 feet of water.

Farewell my friend. I can take a hint.

Trolling Motorless
DC
