We were sitting in the boat tied to the dock next to the ramp waiting for our tow vehicles turn in line to haul out. We noticed a new Cadillac with a large boat backing quite fast down the ramp. As it neared the water it became apparent he wasnt slowing down enough. His drivers window was about halfway down and we saw that he was a teenager, apparently driving his Parents car and launching the family boat. Well as the car started into the water, he almost got it stopped, but then the buoyancy of the trunk floated the rear wheels and it just slowly kept sliding into the water. We had a clear view in the drivers window and could see his expression change as he realized what was happening. As the water started pouring into his window we could see this wild thrashing at the opening as he tried to exit the car through a 6 opening. He finally got the door open when the cabin was almost filled and he popped to the surface. The boat had obviously been unhooked from the trailer previously and floated free. The car kept sliding deeper and deeper until you could just barely make out the hood under about six feet of water. Well, after about half an hour Dad and the tow truck arrived at about the same time. As you might expect Dad was fit to be tied. He screamed, but he didnt hit his Son. It was a sad sight seeing them winch that new Cadillac up the ramp. Because it was full of water it weighed a few extra tons. The suspension was bottomed out and the tires looked almost flat as it came up the ramp. I thought Dad was going to cry as his new car appeared out of the water. I noticed his Son kept his distance. It wasnt really funny at the time, more amazing really. Just one of the many, many incidents Ive witnessed where people without sufficient experience come to the lake and destroy expensive equipment.
