I recently purchased an old beater, and am looking to upgrade a few things. Mainly I was wondering if there is a way to add a trim/tilt system to a 50hp Johnson outboard? All the info I can give ya'll about the engine is that it is a 50th anniversary Johnson 50hp, two cycle, electric start. It runs like a top, however it would be really nice to be able to add a power trim to it. Are there any after-market companies that make such a thing? Or can I get one from Johnson? Any info would be greatly appreciated! P.S. I also have the identical engine made by evenrude, anyone want to trade for a power trim? Thanks, Ross :)

Two options:
1. Find a used P/T unit or a blown up motor with P/T
2. Buy an aftermarket P/T bracket. These work ok but are expensive (approx $600). They are like a big hinge with a hydraulic cylinder in the middle. One side of the hinge bolts to your transom the other side bolts to your motor.

Thanks, mrmerc
Sorry, for my lack of manors, I was so excited to find these boards, I had to jump right in. I've been looking and found an after-market complete trim, and boy are you right there really expensive, about half of what I paid total for my boat/trailer/motor. You mentioned finding a junked motor with the trim on it, might you know where to look to find something that would fit my motor? I was looking at a site that rwise had mentioned and think it's about a 1972 Johnson 50hp. Reguardless, thanks so much for your help! Thanks, Ross
:)

Raleigh Wood
around these part, there are used dealers, most not listed. I find them by talking to others with "older" boats, and just watching for them as I drive around. I found a generater upgrade kit for my 58 50hp rude still in the box! Parts are out there!
Richard
